Who is a good candidate?

Microneedling is suitable for all skin types, all year-round, but is especially effective for those seeking a firmer complexion. Individuals concerned about wrinkles, fine lines, scars, and overall skin texture are good candidates. Skin types of all shades can benefit from it.

Who is not a good candidate?

While Microneedling is safe and effective for most people, some individuals may not be ideal candidates due to factors that could increase risks or impact results. Medical clearance may be required for certain conditions. Please consult with your healthcare provider if you are unsure. Precautions to consider:

Pregnancy - consult with your healthcare provider first.
Patients who are undergoing treatment for skin cancer.
Accutane - must wait at least 6 months.
Compromised skin (dermatitis, sunburn, open wounds or sores, infection, severe rosacea or acne) in the treatment area.
Autoimmune conditions that affect skin healing (like lupus or active vitiligo) - consult with your healthcare provider first.
History of keloids or poor wound healing.
Bleeding disorders or dysfunction.

When will I see results?

Usually you will see initial improvements in just 2 days as collagen production kicks in, with the best results becoming more apparent over the next 1-6 weeks. More significant results will occur after 3-6 treatments spaced 4 weeks apart. Collagen remodeling takes place over time. Skin will continue to improve over the next 6-12 months with a proper skin care regimen. Results will vary in each patient.

How long do results last?

The results are long-lasting, especially with a series of treatments. Many see improvements for up to 6 months or longer.

Is there any downtime or side effects?

Microneedling has minimal downtime. You may experience mild swelling for about a day and redness and sensitivity that lasts between 2-4 days. Some patients may experience mild peeling or flaking as the skin continues to fully heal which can be up to 5-7 days.

How does this treatment work?

Microneedling is an aesthetic medical procedure that involves repeatedly puncturing the skin with tiny, disposable sterile needles in order to induce endogenous production of cutaneous collagen. Topical numbing cream may be applied to the treated area for approximately 15-20 minutes to ease any discomfort and will be removed prior to treatment. During the procedure, you might feel warmth or a scratching sensation. A deeper treatment may cause some pin point bleeding. The procedure is generally well-tolerated and lasts about 30 minutes, depending on the treatment area.

Before + After Care

Before Treatment

Avoid excessive sun exposure and tanning beds for at least 24 hours.
Avoid using retinol or exfoliants in the treatment area for at least 24 hours.
Avoid blood thinners (including fish oil and vitamin E), NSAIDs, and alcohol for at least 3 days and corticosteroids for at least 7 days to minimize bleeding, bruising, and irritation. Consult with your healthcare provider before discontinuing medication.
Avoid facial injections, lasers, and other facial treatments for 1-2 weeks before receiving microneedling.
If you have a history of herpes/cold sores in the treatment area, pre-treat with an antiviral a few days before and after to reduce the risk of an outbreak.

After Treatment

Avoid sweating, excessive heat, swimming, hot showers, and sauna use for at least 72 hours or until skin is healed.
Avoid direct sun exposure for at least 72 hours or until skin is healed. Keep the area covered with a hat or loose clothing and apply a broad spectrum (UVA/UVB) SPF 30+ to prevent hyperpigmentation.
Avoid artificial tanning (spray tans, tanning lotions, etc.) and exfoliants (retinol, benzoyl peroxide or acne medications, vitamin C if strong or acidic, hydroquinone, AHAs, BHAs, astringents, depilatories, waxing, shaving, etc.) in the treatment area until skin is healed.
Avoid putting on makeup for at least 24 hours.
